Sugakichi krafts

Welcome to our home.  We hope that you will visit often and stay long.

Sugakichi is an old house that had stood more than a hundred years.
It means in Japanese the building and the people with their traditions
inside the house that makes it a home.

We are proud of our traditions and seek to show that pride in what we
make.  We turn time into things that you can use and into beauty that
please the eyes and soul.  Each item is unique because we are people
and not machines.

The skill of sowing was turned into clothing for dogs when our
Doberman guide dog entered the family.  Jade could not manage the
winter cold and shivered violently.  The solution was to dress her for
the weather and we found that people were admiring her fashions.

The pastels have a more interesting origin.  We were living in Costa
Rica where the American owner of the apartment was an artist and
taught art in a small school next door.   The third or fourth pastel that

came from the effort was of a child and the mother was eager to buy it.

It is hanging on the wall of their house to remind them of the day when the growing child was still scarcely able to walk.

Quilting and knitting have been done for many years.  These too have
been turned into canine fashions and into personal sweaters or bed
covers.  The quilting takes a long time to make, but the craft
produces items that can survive generations.

There is a link where you can write to us in English or Japanese.
Your letters and comments will be welcomed.  Perhaps, you can suggest
new items for Sugakichi to add to the list of crafts.  Don't be shy.
We are all friends even if we haven't met.

  Your hostess and friend Yukiko.
